In the words of those who knew him best, Corbin Miles was a very humble guy who loved Paisley and worked tirelessly to encourage the arts, especially in young people. Contributing to various roles within arts organisations in Paisley, Corbin was one of the first locals to organise open mic nights to encourage and showcase the wealth of musical talent here in Paisley. Every year, Tannahill Arts Festival will award a prize in Corbin’s memory; the Corbin Miles Memorial Prize. Each year will focus on a different artform. This year, we have selected song writing as the focus of the prize and we are encouraging applications from songwriters aged 18-25 who live in Paisley.
In an ordinary year, the adjudicator of the prize will be delighted to offer feedback to applicants. However, due to the difficulty of planning and delivering the festival this year, this year’s prize will take the form of a quick “call-out” and turn around. One applicant will be selected to receive the award which constitutes not only the title “Winner of the Corbin Miles Memorial Prize” but also £200 which the festival hopes will contribute needed funds towards the winner’s continued career development.
The only criteria you must meet is as follows: • Aged 18-25 • Living at a Paisley postal address • If selected as the Winner, you must be available to attend the prizegiving which will take place between 7.30-8pm at Callum's Cavern, Old Sneddon Street on Saturday 2nd October To apply please submit the following in one email to email@example.com before the deadline 5pm on Friday 24th September 2021: • Your full legal name and Paisley postal address • A copy (scan or photo) of ID (accepted forms include driver’s license, passport, or “PASS” The National Proof of Age Standards Scheme) • One song between 2-5 minutes length attached in mp3 or mp4 format The Winner will be announced via email and on Tannahill Arts Festival’s website and social media channels, on or before Friday 1st October 2021.
The adjudicator will consider applicant’s songs with the following criteria in mind (not exhaustive): • The length of the song which must be between 2-5 minutes in length • The relationship of music and melody, including how they contribute to listener engagement and emotional impact of the song • Lyrics, including inventiveness, memorability and ability to evoke a response from the listener • Originality of song writing including presence of new or fresh approaches to the artform
